Democracy in Action

For all the candidates: Paano nyo masasabi sa amin na karapat-dapat kayong iboto at manalo para sa posisyong itinatakbo nyo?”

“For the Vice-Presidential candidates, do you have what it takes to help the president run the student council?”

Why do you deserve our votes?”

Being the only female running for the highest position in the FUSSC, do you have plans for the welfare of female students in FEATI? What are those plans?

FEATI University students sure know how to hit hard when it comes to their peers. These tough-as-nails questions were posed to those who ran for coveted positions in the recently-concluded Miting de Avance in preparation for election season of the FEATI University Supreme Student Council (FUSSC) academic year 2012-2013.  The Miting de Avance was witnessed by Sr. Nicetas M. Favorito, DC, Dean of Student Affairs and Sr. Emily G. Camarote, DC head of the Campus Ministry; the members of the COMELEC and a number of faculty members.  The questions hardly rattled the contenders running under the Sikat and LRT banners. In fact, these only strengthened the resolve of each one to prove to their voting population that they were worth the time and ink.

The computerized voting system was administered by Ms. Arlene Apostol and Mr. Argel Cruz, faculty members of the Information Technology Department. The battle between Sikat and LRT was close. The votes were digitally computed and the results were announced at 7:00 PM.  Congratulations to the LRT slate for winning it all and great job to Sikat for putting up a great fight!

The newly-elected FUSSC officers joined the officers of the FEATI Architecture Student Association (FASA), Global English Proficiency Program Society (GEPPSoc), Kapisanan ng mga Mag-aaral sa Sining at Komunikasyon (KAMASKOM), FEATI Business Club (FBC), FEATI Tourism Society (FTS), Aviation Society for Research and Development (ASRAD), FEATI Computer Society (FCS), Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines (IECEP), Junior Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (JPICE), Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME), Students’ Association in Geodetic Engineering (SAGE), CME PIRATES, FEATI Art Group (FAG), FEATI Peer Group (FPG), KAMERADARE, Realist Dance Crew, and the Red Cross Youth Council (RCYC) at an oath-taking ceremony witnessed by FEATI management, deans, and faculty members of the various colleges, and the entire student assembly.

Oath-takers were dressed in their Sunday best with the ladies looking fresh and feminine and the gentlemen, dapper in their suits. They took to the stage in groups to receive their certificates and pose for the cameras. Administering the oaths of office were Dean of Student Affairs Sr. Nicetas Favorito, DC, College of Engineering Dean Dr. Rogelio A. Panlasigui and University President Dr.-Ing. Adolfo Jesus R. Gopez.  Post oath-taking, the FUSSC officers successfully staged their first event called “Cocktails and Strings,” a soiree open to all FEATI students and their friends. It was an SRO party which just means that the FUSSC officers received overwhelming support from the students who put them in their current positions.

Congratulations to all those who received the nod and support of the students! Student leaders, you have your work cut out for you! The FEATI Community encourages you to rise to the occasion and the expectations! (AMD)
