Adonis P. Tierra: Starting Guard, Two-Time MVP of the FEATI Hi-Flyers, and BSCE Alumnus brings glory to FEATI in the pro leagues.

Adonis was a recent visitor to FEATI University and caused quite a thrill among the employees and students as the 5’10” Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Alumnus Class 1975-1980 strode into campus unaware of the pink-cheeked fuss he was stirring.

Adonis was a Starting Guard in the FEATI Hi-Flyers Men’s Varsity Basketball; the team was a huge crowd drawer during that time when FEATI Sports was at an all-time high. Adonis pounded the hard court to score many victories that earned him a Two-Time MVP crown in the Metro Manila University and College Athletic Association (MUCAA). Back then, the word ‘Represent!’ wasn’t in anyone’s vocabulary but he and the varsity team were 100% doing just that, ‘Representing’ with a capital R! For a number of years the FEATI Hi-Flyers Men’s Varsity saw action and brought sporting glory to FEATI University… crowning moments that we can all be proud of.

Beyond FEATI University, Adonis played in the NCR team of the Palarong Pambansa where they outhooped all the others to come out champions.

He didn’t stop there; Adonis played in various international competitions including the Jones Cup in Taipei, Taiwan in 1983, the PABL Commissioner’s and Maharlika’s Cup in 1984, was drafted by the Philippine National Team that played in the South East Asian Games in Singapore in 1985 and the Manila Beer team in the PBA in 1986, continuing his playing career in the PBA straight through to the 90’s with Hills Bros., Alaska, and Sta. Lucia Realty.

The year 2000 saw his rebirth from executing thrilling shots to calling the plays as Head Coach for the San Beda Red Lions and Sta. Lucia Realtors. Today he is the Assistant Coach for the PBA NLEX Road Warriors.

Not one to sit on his decades-long experience, Adonis has attended a number of coaching workshops to keep abreast with the times. Erik Spoelstra, Kevin Barbosa, Heather Livingston, Tex Winter, Tom Newell, Michael Cooper, Dale Brown and Pang Yul are among those that he has learned from when he met them in these workshops.

Off court, Adonis is a board member of the Basketball Coaches Association of the Philippines, a position he’s held since 2000.

His recent visit to FEATIU was upon the invitation of Melanie P. Florentino, Head for Events and Alumni Affairs. The goal was to get him as the new basketball coach but his professional commitments conflicted with the position. He has instead offered his time as pro bono consultant for his beloved FEATIU.

Adonis P. Tierra: FEATInian, champion athlete, and winning coach. One of our own, one of the best, making us proud, and living proof of the #greatFEATIexperience. (AMD)
