FEATI University works for a Green environment: Blue + Gold = Green

Environmental consciousness continues to make its mark in the nation’s psyche after several recent disastrous weather disturbances affected the country with loss of lives and significant damage to property. The environmental awareness of FEATI University is clearly evident by its active role in leading the University Belt Research and Extension Linkage, with the partnership of the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission (PRRC) and the assistance of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), in efforts leading to the rehabilitation of the Pasig River. This first modest effort in the form of a research program completed in early 2009 will now be continued on a bigger scale, with additional support from DOST and the advocacy of ABS-CBN Foundation. The thirteen universities of the University Belt Consortium and the PRRC will continue to be active in this “Phase 2 Program” on the Stewardship of the Pasig River.

In the furtherance of its green advocacy, FEATI University will contribute to ABS-CBN Foundation Inc.’s Bantay Kalikasan efforts to Save the La Mesa Watershed, a 2700-hectare ideal nature spread within the Metro, which is also known for cultivating bio-diverse tree species. Parts of the Watershed are now croplands that must be “reclaimed” by reforestation. The trees that grow and will be grown within this vast spread are vital since they are instrumental in providing clean air and water to an estimated 12 million people in Metro Manila. The University will contribute to the restoration of crucial areas of the Watershed by strategic tree planting and other related measures.

To help restore the beauty and environmental benefits of the Watershed, the University is staging “Blue + Gold = Green”, a fashion show for a cause. The event will not only showcase the best design creations of the FEATI University School of Fine Arts’ students and faculty members, but most importantly it will raise funds for the Save La Mesa Watershed project. The show will be held on January 26, 2010 at FEATI Bridgepoint in the FEATI University campus in Sta. Cruz, Manila. Be a part of the University’s efforts to lend a hand to Mother Nature by attending this unique activity! For further event details, please call 733-8321 loc 406 or 428. (KAL)
