FEATI Academic Year 2013-2014 off to a great start with twin celebrations

Welcome FEATInians Week is practically a tradition by now, as it marks the beginning of every school year. This year, however, the event was expanded to include Foundation Week to celebrate the founding of FEATI University by the husband and wife team of Don Salvador Z. Araneta and Doña Victoria Lopez de Araneta. Their avowed objective for establishing FEATI was to contribute to the recovery and reconstruction of the Philippine economy by providing qualified engineers and technicians through education, a legacy that management and staff maintain in their memory.

The double celebration meant that incoming and returning students would be treated to a week of fun and surprises. Organized by Events & Promotions Department, in coordination with the Office of Student Affairs, the activities especially prepared for them began on June 13 all the way through June 17, 2013.

Everyday started with a pre-welcome treat at the University gate. Each new student received a Welcome Kit which detailed the games, mechanics, and activities that were relevant to starting their academics at the University. Each day meant different games such as Pick & Win a Prize; Sit & Win a Prize; Logo Collections; Human Bingo; Photo Scavenger Craze; Giants, Elves and Wizards; Jeopardy; and Pictionary.

Sponsors Reinier Pacific International Shipping, Inc. (through the kindness and generosity of its president, Captain Amado L. Castro Jr., FEATI Maritime alumnus 1971), SMART Communications, Crimson T-Shirts, Blue Horizon, and JOBS180.COM, made it possible for the University to give away cash, t-shirts, meals, and free photos via a photo booth during the week’s entire run. A mobile phone grand prize was won by Levander Nonan, a BS Geodetic Engineering student. Daniel De Los Reyes, Games and Entertainment Host, and the Varsity teams also played crucial roles in the success of the weeklong affair.

It wasn’t only about fun and games though. A convocation on June 17 served as the first formal venue for the new students to be acquainted with FEATI as a 67 year old University. Everyone was properly introduced to the “FEATI Way”, to FEATI’s rich history, and its achievements. At the conclusion of the convocation the new FEATInians met and shook hands with the men and women--key officials, management team and faculty members--who will play a vital part in molding them through education and training in the next four to five years.

The din of opening week has now died down and the new FEATInians are now on the first leg of their journey along the “FEATI Way”.  Welcome Freshmen!  Welcome back FEATInians! (AMD)
