FEATI University College of Maritime Education Passes CHED/MARINA OBMI Audit, Receives Recertification to ISO 9001:2008 and Bids Safe Voyage to Ship-bound Cadets

The University’s College of Maritime Education (CME) went through a two-day exigent verification for re-certification of CHED/MARINA/PRC using the Outcomes-Based Teaching and Learning (OBTL) instrument under the CHED-mandated Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) framework in the last quarter of 2014. Official results received recently confirm that CME passed the audit and has two months to act on the findings. With both the BS Marine Transportation and BS Marine Engineering programs already at Level I, CME is now preparing for a Level II Accreditation by PACUCOA.

It is worth noting that in the audit's closing meeting CHED-MARINA Auditors and PRC examiners CE Mike Marasigan and Capt. Romeo Abuyuan officially recognized the University for its continuing efforts in maintaining and enhancing the quality of its Maritime education programs. While the immediate outcome is to graduate cadets who are fully qualified under STCW and joint CHED-MARINA standards the ultimate objective is for these cadets to become fully operational merchant marine officers contributing to the national economy and nation building.

According to FEATIU CME Superintendent Engr. Edmon S. Aloc, “Our Maritime Education programs breezed through the audit unscathed. It helps that we are a candidate for Level II PACU-COA accreditation. There were minor non-conformities and observations which we can address in no time. Overall, the audit was favorable for us. This also means that our compliance is consistent with the requirements of the EMSA under the European Commission. CME also continuously improves learning delivery capabilities by procuring high-end simulators. We will take this very welcome development to further benefit our students and stakeholders.”

The College is also brimming with cadets disembarking from a year of sea duty in addition to the constant influx of cadets enrolling in SBT I and II preceding shipboard deployment. CME is happy to welcome Cadet. Carl Olivar who finished his sea duty on board Dohle-Philman.

As cadets are returning to CME, there are also those who are off to complete one year at sea. Good Luck, fair winds, and safe voyage to Cadets. Rosco Abengonza (CrewCare), Michael River (2GO), Jon Reginaldo (Reinier Pacific), Jesmar Rafallo (AutoCirculo), Mc-Rio Del Carmen (Bouvet Shipping), Amosdar Garcia (Baliwag Maritime), Derick Mestio (Dalisay shipping), James Bautista (Reinier Pacific), Frankie Lazo (Reinier Pacific), Isidro Torayno (Reinier), John Acedo (Status Maritime), Heart Baylon (Reinier Pacific), Melvin Besi (Reinier Pacific), Jesus Lagrad (Robles Shipping), Nathaniel Manzano (Robles Shipping), Michael Millare (Marlow Navigation), Michael Millondaga (PhilsSpan Sea Carrier), and John Kevin Dimaandal (Rickmers Marin Agency). CME awaits their triumphant return to FEATI University. (AMD)
