FEATI University wins its first game as ISAA opens its 4th season!

On August 15, 2012, the 4th season of the Inter-Scholastic Athletic Association (ISAA) opened at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan. The ISAA, founded to foster sportsmanship and camaraderie among universities in Manila, is composed of FEATI University, La Consolacion College Manila, Lyceum of the Philippines University, Manila Adventist Medical Center and Colleges, Manila Tytana Colleges, Philippine Women’s University, St. Dominic College of Asia, Technological Institute of the Philippines, and the latest addition, Philippine Merchant Marine School. University presidents, officials, and hundreds of students from ISAA-member schools trooped to the venue for another “wet” opening day.

After the parade of athletes, Guest of Honor Kerby “The Kid” Raymundo, towering forward of the Barangay Ginebra Kings, delivered the inspirational message to a very receptive and appreciative crowd. As per tradition, dress-to-impress muses fronted each team and two of them tied for the approval of the ISAA board as Best Muses: the ladies from Manila Tytana Colleges and St. Dominic College of Asia each received a bouquet of roses and a gift bag courtesy of Eric Aliling of Abot Kaya Personal Care products. Abot Kaya extended their generosity to the other school muses by providing them with gift bags as well.

The opening ceremonies of 4th season of the ISAA provided the perfect venue for announcing last year’s champions and runners-up in the various events.

In Basketball: Champion, Technological Institute of the Philippines; 1st runner-up, La Consolacion College Manila; 2nd runner up, FEATI University.

Men’s Volleyball: Champion, FEATI University; 1st runner-up, La Consolacion College Manila; 2nd runner up, Manila Tytana Colleges.

Women’s Volleyball: Champion, Technological Institute of the Philippines; 1st runner up, La Consolacion College Manila; 2nd runner-up, FEATI University.

Women’s Badminton: Champion, Manila Adventist Medical Center and Colleges; 1st runner-up, Manila Tytana Colleges Men’s Badminton: Champion, Manila Tytana Colleges; 1st runner-up Manila Adventist Medical Center and Colleges.

As soon as the games were declared open by the ISAA President, courtside became a swirling mass of basketball fanatics cheering and shouting themselves hoarse for the love of the game. It was a close gut-wrenching fight between the male cagers of Philippine Women’s University and FEATI University Seahawks but the latter held on for yet another victorious finish for the 66-year old academic institution.

In the coming weeks and months, ISAA-member schools will be competing in volleyball, swimming, badminton, and of course, basketball.  The 4th season for this young and thriving league is already promising to be every bit as exciting as the first three seasons were! (AMD)
