Science & Technology Expo 2016: 70 Years of Innovation and Beyond March 3-4, 2016, ACTIVITY CENTER, FEATIU

FEATIU held the Science & Technology 2016 Expo, with the theme, “Bridging Research and Community Outreach for Inclusive Development” from March 3-4. The 2-day affair kicked off with a Thanksgiving Mass.
The Expo formally opened with the Entrance of Colors led by the 275th NROTC with the National Anthem sung by the FEATIU Chorale.

Welcome Remarks was given by the President, Dr. Adolfo Jesus R. Gopez and the Opening Remarks by Dr. Rogelio A. Panlasigui, Dean of College of Engineering and ORDE Director. Dr. Panlasigui then introduced the guest speaker for the 2016 Expo, none other than Dr. Carlos Primo C. David.
Dr. David is the Executive Director of the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD), Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
A Plaque of Appreciation was awarded to the Keynote Speaker by Dr. Gopez, Mr. Francisco A. Segovia, Vice Chairman and CEO and Dr. Gloria M. Alberto, EVP/COO.

The exhibit was opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony led by Dr. David with Dr. Gopez, Mr. Segovia and Dr. Alberto.
The Expo was actively participated in by different departments, most of which were from the College of Engineering. Innovation and invention of gadgets, machines and equipment (that could be tested and tried on the spot) were part of the showcase. The Fine Arts students also had their booth displaying artistic works and craftsmanship.
S &T Expo 2016 was well attended by guests from different government agencies such as Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD), Philippine Science Centrum of the Philippine Foundation for Science, Technology Application and Promotion Institute (TAPI), Department of Science and Technology-NCR Region (DOST-NCR), Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission (PRRC) and Naval Research and Technology Development Center (NRTDC).

Students from the following schools also came and participated in the High School research competition: Antonio A. Maceda Integrated School (High School), Cayetano Arellano High School, Esteban Abada High School, Manuel G. Araullo High School, Pasay City Science High school and Valenzuela Science High School.

For the Research Competition, there were 20 entrants in the High School category, 10 entrants from the University Researches and 5 entrants at the Faculty Research level.
In the afternoon of Day 1, the judging of research entries, seminars and presentations and on-the-spot art competition, including the orienteering challenge were conducted.

The Panel of Judges were Engr. Crystalynne D. Cortez, Assistant Professor, School of Science and Technology at Centro Escolar University, Kristine Gail C. Lobo, Senior Researcher, Research and Publications Center, Lyceum of the Philippines University and Michael C. Tallud, National Servce Training Program Clerk, Office of Extension and Community Outreach, University of the East- Caloocan.
On Day 2, the winners were announced and awarded within the Founders’ Day Celebration program and activities.
