ASRAD SPEARHEADS TURBO-PROP SEMINAR

FEATI Bridgepoint-FEATI University Aviation Society for Research and Development (ASRAD), under the guidance of the Aeronautical Engineering Department (Aero-AMT Dept.) invited Engr. Randy M. Rano, Aviation Partnerships engineer and part-time Aero-AMT faculty member to enlighten students on the operation and line maintenance of turbo-prop engines, November 29.

For one day, five hundred Aeronautical Engineering and Aircraft Maintenance Technology students from FEATI, PATTS College of Aeronautics and Philippine State College of Aeronautics (PhilSCA) were informed of latest trends, practices as well as theories governing the operation, maintenance and servicing of turbo-prop engines.  Although considered inferior to the much more popular turbofan engines, turbo-prop engines offer greater fuel efficiency and are ideal for short flights.

At the end of the day, participants were given an examination to gauge how much they have learned from said seminar. The ASRAD and the seminar speaker Engr. Rano agreed that to ensure the attendees’ absorption of the topic, only those who would pass the examination were to be given a certificate of completion.  Those who would not pass were to be given certificates of attendance.  Attendees were given commemorative t-shirts and were also served lunch and snacks during the activity.

“FEATI really takes pride in being the only Aero school in the metropolis providing seminars and for its students as well as the students of other schools, and it is a good sign of our strong dedication to update and augment what our students are learning in the classroom”, a FEATI Aero-AMT faculty member commented.

The seminar was a success thanks to the hard-working ASRAD officers: Rjo E. Cabading, President; Neil Bryant Sy, Vice-President; Ma. Elaine I. Elago, Secretary; Rei Marie M. Frani, Treasurer; Maria Katrina M. Kazenas, Business Manager; Roi Allan A. Bernardo, P.R.O.-Internal and Alexis Nino John C. Quioco, P.R.O.-External.

Plans are in the works to bring said seminar to the students of the FEATI-Clark Polytechnic joint venture at Clark Special Economic Zone, Pampanga.

In the early days of 2009, FEATI U ASRAD continues to brainstorm on possible seminar topics, appropriate for today’s aviation industry and for the benefit of students and faculty members alike. (DEPJ)
