FEATI UNIVERSITY RECOGNITION DAY

August 10 is University Day at FEATI University, because on this day in 1959, FEATI Institute of Technology became a university.  In the recent years, University Day has become associated with the recognition of honor students and board exam passers, as well as the formal recognition of qualified student organizations.  This year, the event became more meaningful when in addition to the “standard” events, the duly-elected officers of the different student organizations and the FEATI University Supreme Student Council, were inducted into their positions. Organized by the Office of Student Affairs under the leadership of Dean Sr. Nicetas M. Favorito, DC, the Event began with an opening prayer by the Campus Ministry that was immediately followed by the entrance of colors by the 275th NROTC Unit.

Ms. Salvacion T. Sacaguing, Master of Ceremony and Chairperson of the Communication Arts department, started the formalities by introducing College of Business Dean Tristan H. Macapanpan for the welcome remarks.

To give a better understanding for difficulty in maintaining an academic scholarship and of the benefits to be obtained, Mr. Richard Janer of the Guidance and Counseling Office explained the rationale and criteria of the various academic scholarships. To qualify for this “elite club” FEATI students have to maintain grade point average higher than 2.0 without any failing grade or incomplete grades. The awardees are further distinguished by their averages into Dean’s Scholars, Presidential Scholars and Board of Trustees Scholars.  Don Salvador and Dona Victoria scholars were also honored.  Here are the academic scholarship awardees.

On behalf of the scholars John Gabriel Decena, a 4th Year Aeronautical Engineering Student, and a Don Salvador Araneta scholarship recipient, spoke of the value and positive effects of the scholarship, particularly from his personal standpoint.  He emphasized the importance of persevering despite the odds, in order to succeed.  He said he was a living example of this enduring characteristic.

Sr. Nicetas M. Favorito, Dean of Student Affairs then explained the criteria for student organizations to be officially recognized.  She then inducted the organization officers into office and handed out certificates of recognition. This was followed by the Deans of the various colleges who inducted the officers and representative of the Departmental Student Councils into office.

The crème de la crème of all student organizations, representing the students themselves is the FEATI University Supreme Student Council (FUSSC). The official proclamation of the newly elected officers for Academic Year 2011-2012 was made by the COMELEC Chair, Ms. Nancy Cabuhat of CASE, while the oath of office was administered to them by FEATI University President Dr.-Ing.Adolfo Jesus R. Gopez. Inducted into office were: President - Cedrick V. Berones; Vice-President - Ma. Isabel V. Fornigones; Secretary - Jessa N. Batac; Treasurer - Riña Mariz B. Cacabelos; Auditor - Freznel C. Miclat; Business Manager - Alvin M. Corporal; PRO -Noralyn F. Dela Cerna; Sgt. At Arms - Romeo T. Surban Jr.

Dr. Rogelio A. Panlasigui, Dean of the College of Engineering gave the closing remarks to end the recognition ceremonies and give way to the activities of the various organizations.

For the direct benefit of the students, booths and exhibits entitled “The Orgs at a Glance” located around the Activity Center now became the center of attention.  Among those who exhibited were: Aviation Society for Research and Development, Campus Ministry, Students’ Association of Geodetic Engineering, The Pirates (College of Maritime Education Students’ Organization), FEATI Art Group & KAMERADARE, Students’ Chapter of the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers, FEATI Computer Society, KANLUNGAN, Junior Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (JPICE), FEATI Peer Group, KAMASKOM, FEATI Tourism Society & FEATI Business Group, ECE and EE Students’ Organization.  In addition, there were various sponsors’ booths of Chippy, McCormick, Clara Ole, and Sony Vaio.

“Recognition and Organization Day is an event that the Office of Student Affairs gladly organizes entirely for and on behalf of the students and their parents. We like to think of our preparations as a gift for FEATI students who truly deserve to come up on stage with their parents and receive recognition for their hard work and dedication to academic and athletic achievements. In today’s world where young kids are so into texting and the Internet, studying is often thought of as boring and unimportant. It really gives us great joy to discover that there are still students who prioritize studying and excellent grades, as an imperative,” said Sr. Nicetas M. Favorito.

Later in the afternoon, a Rock-Back-To-School Concert, in cooperation with the FEATI Events & Promotions, featuring Imago, Pedicab, and a few up-and-coming rock groups literally shook the University with their creative outputs. Musicality was really in the air that afternoon and served to cap a long but satisfying day. (AMD)
