School Year 2010-2011 opens with Foundation Day festivities

FEATI University opened the school year by celebrating the 64th anniversary of its establishment on June 7, 2010. Freshmen, transferees and returning students were greeted with a week-long series of activities to make them feel welcome while at the same time reminding them of the rich history and giving them a glimpse of promising future of the University.

The celebration for the University’s foundation day, which is customarily celebrated every June 6, was opened by a mass held at the 4th floor lobby, where the President gave a brief message. In his message Dr.-Ing. Adolfo Jesus R. Gopez first reminded those present of FEATI’s beginnings on June 6, 1946 as FEATI Institute of Technology. The founders, Don Salvador and Doña Victoria Araneta looked to supply trained manpower and engineers for the aviation industry and for the rebuilding of the post war economy. In the recent years, FEATI, which became a University on August 10, 1959, has had to re-engineer itself to cope with the changing times. The University has done this by focusing on its core competence in aviation and engineering, as well as its maritime education programs, which the University had started in the 1960’s. FEATI University has also re-committed itself to quality education and a quality orientation. In its 64th year, FEATI University has dedicated itself to securing a long-awaited Accreditation in its core programs. This will be followed by similar efforts in its Business, Architecture and Fine Arts programs.

Succeeding the mass were the fun games and surprises for all the students. Winners from the Scavenger Hunt, Human Bingo and Sit-and-Win games received tokens and University items. On the last day of the week-long celebration, first year Aircraft Maintenance Technology student Michael Tolosa won the grand prize, a mobile phone unit and kit courtesy of Globe Telecommunications, Inc. Prior to the awarding of the grand prize, students were treated with a film showing and awarding of minor prizes, which included premium university items.

During the week, freshmen and transferees were also given campus tours by the FEATI Men’s and Women’s Volleyball varsity players. The new FEATInians now eagerly await the annual Acquaintance Party of the FEATI University Supreme Student Council. (KAL)
