FEATI University holds inter-school music competition for the environment

More than the loud beating of the drums and the energized crowd waiting to hear their bets rule the stage, the "Tunog Kabataan para sa Kalikasan," proved to be a perfect vehicle for a bigger cause. The seven bands that battled it out with their musical supremacy helped paved the way to reiterate, if not instill, the importance of a greener environment.

The event, held on December 18, 2010 at the Musica Bar in Greenhills, served as a fitting culminating affair of the year for FEATI University since beginning 2010 with environment-friendly activities; the FEATI Blue + Gold = Green fashion show on January 26 and the tree planting activity at the La Mesa Watershed in Quezon City that followed.

Organized by FEATI University and the FEATI United Customs Administration Society (UCAS), and co-produced by TV Juan, the event was attended by students from Fatima University, Manila Business College, Asian Institute of Maritime Studies, Manuel L. Quezon University, Unibersidad de Manila and Manila Central University.

“This is another FEATI way of stepping up to the call for the rehabilitation and preservation of our natural resources before the situation worsens. Students from various colleges and universities were encouraged to do their share in taking care of the environment in a ‘fun way”.” said Melanie Florentino, Head of FEATI Events & Promotions.

Prophecy from Our Lady of Fatima University, with their original composition "Don't Be Afraid”, a cover of “Broken Wings”, took home the grand prize; a trophy, TV Juan contract and P10,000 in cash. The band also snagged the Best MTV award, getting an additional P3,000 from sponsor JobsDB. Manila Business College's Royal Tycoons took home P8,000 as runner-up band, while Asian Institute of Maritime Studies' Banana Type pocketed the P3,000 prize. Apart from cash, all winners were handed with trophies. Other bands that joined the competition were Arikizonian of Manuel L Quezon University, False Eye from Unibersidad de Manila, Lovers and Friends of Manila Central University, and FEATI's very own, Sabit.

Special awardees were Prophecy's Pamela Ann Tipon as Best Vocalist, Banana Type's Robinson Asuncion for Best Drummer and Arkizonian's trio of winners, Jason De Gracia as Best Guitarist, Mac Culase for Best Keyboardist, and Michael Labrador as Best Bassist. The competition was adjudged by ANC Sports Analyst Dill Velasco, Former Associate Producer of MTV Philippines and GMA 7 Network Jethro Catalinhug, TV Juan Marketing Director Manny Tonogbanua, singer Ana Melissa and TV Juan Executive Producer and Director Mr. Carlos “Bong “ Agustin.

This event was made possible through the support of the following sponsors -- UR 105.9FM as the Official Radio Partner, Binalot, AKRHO FEATI University Alumni - USA Chapter, Suarez & Sons, Ms. Margie A. Segovia, JobsDB Philippines, Musica Bar , The Bar, and The Philippine Star. (MPF)
