FEATI University School of Fine Arts' Lance Kirby Yaneza wins grand prize while Mark Coleen R. Elic enters the semifinals of the 12th Petron National Student Art Competition aka Everyone's Vision Petron 2012

Emerging contemporary artists, much admired art teachers, and budding photographers have all reaped a bountiful harvest of awards and cash prizes in the recently-concluded 12th Petron National Student Art Competition or Vision Petron for short. Over 500 entries were received in keeping with the theme, Lakbay Alalay Para Sa Kalikasan.

In the painting category, Lance Kirby Yaneza with his entry Kakambal Ko Ang Kalikasan was adjudged the best of the entire lot.  Marc Coleen R. Elic’s Ugnayan won enough nods to become a semifinalist in the same category. Yaneza and Elic, along with all the winners in this year’s Petron Student Art Competition were described as “The Few… The Proud… The Best!” Aptly so as attested by their arresting artworks which deservedly landed Yaneza on top and earned Elic a slot as semifinalist.

What makes Petron’s art competition more prestigious and possibly quite nerve-wracking for artist-competitors is the fact that the panel of judges had several of our National Artists led by BenCab with co-judges Billy Abueva, Mars Imao, Juvenal Sanso, Director Jeremy Barns, Danny Dalena, Felice Sta. Maria, and Rodel Tapaya.  The illustrious panel took the time to pick out only the best based on equal amounts of artistic technique over messaging.

More than this milestone in their lives, Yaneza and Elic will treasure the fact that great artists of the Philippine art scene got to see their raw talent in full display. It’s definitely an experience they won’t most likely forget in a very long time. For Yaneza, “It feels good to be recognized by the awe-inspiring National Artists of our time and get the top prize in the painting category. The cash award from Petron will also help me and family. I am thankful to the FEATI School of Fine Arts, our Associate Dean Janice L. Young, my Art Instructor/Professor Neil M. Dela Cruz, and the entire faculty of the SFA for their encouragement. My achievement is theirs too. I won’t be able to get this far with my craft without them.”
