WELDING SKILLS CENTER PASSES MILESTONE

The Welding Skills Center (WSC) of the FEATI Professional Schools celebrated its first major milestone February 6, 2009. WSC breached the first 1 million peso gross revenue with the enrollment of its 88th trainee. This special day was celebrated with a special thanksgiving mass by the University Chaplain Fr. Arnel Martinez, SSS, followed thereafter by a luncheon at the WSC area graced by FEATI officials led by Pres. A.J.R. Gopez, Dir. Casey F. Domingo of the Professional Schools, Engr. Joel C. Herrera, Associate Dean of the College of Engineering and Chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and members of the University Academic Council.

WSC graduates have also performed well.  Fourteen graduates who opted to take the TESDA NC II assessment and certification test obtained a 100% passing rate. On January 29, 2009, Japanese principals led by KURODA International Foundation, Inc. came to FEATI University and screened 45 welder applicants including 8 of the WSC graduates. Four of them made it to the final 15 welders who will be sent to work in Japan this May.

Beginning this month, the WSC will screen potential grantees of the “Pangulong Gloria Scholarship” being administered by TESDA.  WSC was recently awarded 313 SMAW, GMAW and GTAW scholarship seats by the TESDA Manila District.  These “Tek Bok Scholarships” are for distribution in the first quarter of 2009.
